(Post 26) Planning Script/Stage Directions
My music video focuses on the progression of a romantic relationship between two teenage
women. To show this, I am going to use a split screen to portray two scenarios- one in the past,
when they were still together, and the other in the present, with the relationship after it has
ended. I will use this idea in a different way to the usual flashback format of such videos.
Specifically, I am going to show this through photographs- the main character in the present will
look at old photographs of the couple, and these will move (I will edit over another layer, with
clips of the couple over the top). This will portray their relationship through time, without using
an overused technique (flashbacks). Because of this, my idea revolves around two-time frames
with different stories:

an overused technique (flashbacks). Because of this, my idea revolves around two-time frames
with different stories:
The Past:
This part of my music video mostly focuses on how good their relationship was. They were
deeply happy together, and very much in love. This is portrayed through a series of
photographs. Because of this, there won't be much of a linear narrative in the past, but it will
simply be a representation of their relationship. I will use multiple locations and costumes to
portray a long period of time. Specific locations include- in a field in the rain, in their living room,
wrapped up in blankets, on the bus, etc. This will portray how their relationship spanned over a
long period of time. There will be one of these clips that portrays a story, however. This will be
the last photograph revealed and will portray the end of their relationship. They will be fighting
in their home, and the main character will scream and storm out of the house, thus ending their
relationship. This must be a pinnacle moment, as it will cause the character in the present to run
and find her girlfriend again.
The Present:
The majority of the action in my video will happen in the present time frame. This time period
will focus mainly on one of the girls. The video will open on the pair lying on the ground, looking
at the sky. The camera will then pan up to the sky, where a quote will appear. It will then pan
down in the same way, but this time the main character is alone on the grass. She will be lying
on the same picnic blanket, and will only have a bag with her. After a couple of seconds, she will
arise, brushing herself off and will ready herself to go. She grabs her bag but accidentally knocks
it over, and photographs will tumble out of it, onto the floor. She notices that they're all of her
and her girlfriend, and she goes to put them away. However, she is shocked to see that the
photographs begin to move as if they were alive. They begin moving and show the 'best bits' of
their relationship. They are happy and in love. This is where the past timeline comes into it, and
she begins to see the clips from the past, causing her a great deal of nostalgia and upset. She
will then sadly leaf through them, showing all their great times. In several moments, the camera
will pan 'into' the photograph, and more influential photos will be full screen. In the climax of the
song, she will stick them to a nearby wall. Standing back, she will smile in nostalgia- there is still
love there, and no bad feelings. She turns to leave but notices one photograph left over under her
shoe. This is the one she did not want to see. It depicts her girlfriend with another person, and they
are kissing. In the past, her reaction was to scream at her girlfriend, drop the tray she is carrying
and storm out in anger. However, the picture will show her what really happened- the person with
her girlfriend is drunk and drunkenly makes a move-her girlfriend is not in the wrong. The main
character will realise then (in the present) what a terrible mistake she has made. As the song
begins to close, she will run to her girlfriend's house, and I will film several shots of her running,
interlaced with shots of them happy. At the very end of the video, she will turn up at her girlfriend's
house and knock on the door. The camera will pan up, showing her girlfriend answering, and the
video will end. It ends rather ambiguous and doesn't show whether they get back together. This
is up to the audience to decide.
