(Post 29) Planning- Costume and Make-Up
- Past:
modern costume to show the audience my coursework is set in our contemporary society.
Specifically, I have asked my actresses to wear bright, happy colours, to show the comfrotable,
happy nature of the relationship in the past. For example, in one of the past scenes (when the
couple are baking), Megan is wearing a bright red shirt, and Charlotte is wearing a bright yellow
jumper, both with plain trousers. The use of brighter colours suggets a happy relationship. I am
intending to use the connotations of the bright, primary colours to suggest a close relationship.
Here are their outfis:
I don't have specific plans fro each of the outfits, as I am planning to perform as many costume
changes as I can. This will ensure a sense of progression- it will appear that the characterrs have
been together over a long period of time.
- Present:
familiar use of clothing will allow the audience to understand that this music video is set in our
contemporary society. I am intending to use ordinary clothing from 2017, to show the time period
in this video. This will aid the setting of the video, as it will further show the time frame is located
in 2017.
In the present time, there will only be one main use of costume. Both characters will eventually
be present in this time period (as Max is only in this period at the very end). However, due to her
increase in screen time and general importance, Chloe's outfit is more prevalent and has more
of an effect on the audience.
Chloe's costume:
Specifically, her costume will be an all-black outfit, worn by Megan Lansdell (portraying Chloe).
The items of clothing will preferably be all black, but darker toned clothes may be acceptable if
they are the only option available. She will be wearing:
- Plain black jeans.
- An oversized black hoodie.
- Black socks and shoes.
- No jewellery.
- No makeup.
The decision to use a natural face without makeup shows the audience how unhappy Megan's character truly is. Her makeup in the past scenes has been flawless and beautifully applied. However, in the present, this character has removed all of this. The makeup clearly gave her confidence and she spent a lot of time on it, so wearing no makeup in juxtaposition implies that she has lost the effort to do the things she loves and cares about. It suggests that she has just got out of bed and couldn't be bothered to put on any makeup.
Max's costume:
During the present, the character of Max (played by Charlotte Vincent) is only seen at the very end, for a minimal amount of time. Because of this, her outfit won't have as much impact as Chloe's, but it will still have further meaning. She will be wearing:
- Dark jeans.
- A dark jumper.
- A brightly coloured shirt.
- Black socks.
- No makeup.
Similarly to Chloe's costume, she will wear a base costume of all black. Darker colours and tones may be used as a substitute, but black would be preferred. This will portray all the connotations previously mentioned. The only difference in this costume would be the single use of colour. The brightly coloured shirt will only be visible slightly, and the audience will see a small amount of this colour. This is to remind the audience that Max brings the colour to Chloe's life. The black shows she feels upset about the past, but the colour shows a streak of hope and love.
